Three students from the Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK)—Hayatun Ulfa H., Mimi Rawdha, and Bunga Nabilah—actively participated in the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) on Literacy, held in Cot Tarom Baroh Village, Jeumpa Subdistrict, Bireuen Regency. The activity, conducted on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, was part of the national program entitled “Read Me a Book”, initiated through a collaboration between Universitas Syiah Kuala and the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas).

Together with fellow students from various study programs within the same KKN group, they carried out interactive storytelling activities for young children in the village. The stories were presented with expressive delivery, dynamic voice intonation, and engaging body movements, creating a joyful reading atmosphere that stimulated the children’s imagination.

Asmalizar, the group leader, stated that this activity aimed to foster a culture of literacy from an early age while also developing the cognitive skills and creativity of the village children through storytelling. The program received positive feedback from Azizah, the manager of the Cot Tarom Baroh Village Library, who expressed hope that this literacy spirit would continue to grow and bring long-term benefits to the children in the village.

The participation of Mathematics students in this initiative demonstrates the tangible contribution of FMIPA USK’s academic community in supporting the national literacy program and advancing human resource development at the regional level. The literacy enthusiasm carried by the KKN students is not limited to the village library but will also be extended to surrounding schools in Cot Tarom Baroh as part of the program’s sustainability commitment.
