Banda Aceh – The Himpunan Mahasiswa Matematika (HIMATIKA) of Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) recently held a National Public Speaking Webinar with the theme “Speak Up for a Better Life.” The event took place on Saturday, November 14, 2020, from 09:30 to 11:00 WIB, conducted online via Zoom. The webinar was attended by 80 participants, including 11 committee members and 1 speaker.

The invited speaker was Diyah Adikara, M.I.Kom, commonly known as Mbak Diyah. She is a Public Speaking Specialist, founder, and coach of the Diyah Adikara Speaking Class from Yogyakarta, and a graduate (bachelor’s and master’s) of Diponegoro University. During the webinar, she shared her experiences in the world of public speaking, which she has been involved in since childhood. She also provided motivation, tips, and tricks on how to be more confident when speaking in public.
In line with the theme “Speak Up for a Better Life,” mastering public speaking is essential. Being proficient in public speaking helps individuals build self-confidence when performing in front of an audience. According to Mbak Diyah, public speaking is an art that must harmonize theory and concept with genuine feeling from the heart.
“It’s not easy to learn public speaking alone. Public speaking must be done step by step, in order, and with continuous evaluation for improvement. This can be achieved by learning together with a mentor,” said Mbak Diyah.
In her presentation, she also mentioned that the Diyah Adikara Speaking Class was currently open for public enrollment at an affordable price. Those interested could visit www.daspeakingclass.com

According to one of the participants, the webinar was impressive and well-organized in terms of time management, moderator engagement, and the quality of the speaker.
“The webinar was really memorable. It started on time, the moderator was fun, and the speaker was amazing. The delivery was great and not boring, which made us more enthusiastic in listening. After attending the webinar, we gained a lot of useful insights that can be applied in practicing public speaking,” said Anis, a student at Unsyiah.
The event organized by HIMATIKA not only enhanced participants’ knowledge of public speaking but also allowed them to contribute charitably by donating voluntarily. The donations were given to a social community in Aceh that focuses on Covid-19-related issues.
The committee expressed their gratitude to the speaker and all participants who joined the event. It is hoped that this webinar would inspire and enhance participants’ soft skills in public speaking.
