The Mathematics Student Association (Himatika) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FMIPA Unsyiah), conducted a social service activity at the Media Kasih Islamic Orphanage Foundation for Girls, located at Jl. Gleegurah No. 5, Setui, Baiturrahman, on Sunday (October 21). This social service activity was carried out as a manifestation of the students’ concern and compassion for others.

Alhamdulillah, the social service activity was successfully carried out according to the scheduled date and time. The committee departed from the Unsyiah campus at 08:00 a.m. using a bus, while several members used motorcycles and pedicabs. Upon arrival, the Himatika members were warmly welcomed by Bunda Ida, the caretaker of the Media Kasih Islamic Orphanage Foundation for Girls, along with the children of the orphanage.

The activity began with morning exercises and a mutual cooperation activity to clean the orphanage yard, involving both the children and the committee members. Moderated by Rati Adetia, the opening session included a welcoming speech by Jaka Sriawan, the head of the student association, who expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the orphanage management, represented directly by Bunda Ida.

Before the main activities began, the committee members and the children enjoyed breakfast together, consisting of green bean porridge prepared by the committee. The event then continued with several competitions involving more than 50 children from elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels. There were four types of competitions: a cracker-eating contest for elementary school students, a sack race for junior high school students, a balloon relay race for senior high school students, and a nail-in-the-bottle contest involving children from all educational levels.

Several winners were selected for each competition: three winners for the cracker-eating contest; two winners (one male and one female) for the sack race; two winners (one male team and one female team) for the balloon relay race; and two winners for the nail-in-the-bottle contest.

After the competitions concluded, the event continued with entertainment performances presented by the committee members and the children. This was followed by a quiz session. After the Zuhr prayer, the activity proceeded with a communal lunch with the children, the distribution of prizes to the winners of each competition, and the presentation of stationery packages to the children. The event concluded with the handover of donations in the form of basic food supplies and clothing from the committee to the orphanage management.
