About Program

The Master’s Program in Mathematics, Universitas Syiah Kuala (PSMMAT USK) received its operational permit on March 5, 2012, through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 89/E/O/2012. At its inception, PSMMAT was managed under the Graduate School of Universitas Syiah Kuala. Since 2016, the program has been under the management of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).

PSMMAT USK offers four concentrations of study, namely Dynamic Mathematical Modeling, Optimal Control, Mathematical Optimization, and Mathematics Learning Technology. The program graduated its first cohort of master’s students in 2015, and as of February 2024, it has produced 41 graduates. Currently, there are 20 active students enrolled in the program. PSMMAT USK has undergone three accreditation processes: in 2013 it earned a “C” rating from BAN-PT, in 2017 it improved to a “B” rating from BAN-PT, and in 2022 it achieved a “Very Good” (Baik Sekali) rating from LAMSAMA.

Most alumni of PSMMAT USK work in various professional fields, primarily as academics at universities, teachers at various educational levels, researchers, and employees in government or private sectors, while others have pursued entrepreneurship. These outcomes align with the program’s mission to fulfill the growing need for mathematics professionals in diverse areas.

The learning experience at PSMMAT USK is designed to develop students’ mathematical competence, innovation, work ethic, social behavior, adaptability, and applied mathematical skills. The curriculum is continuously developed to align with the intended learning outcomes. PSMMAT USK also maintains collaborative relationships with other disciplines, particularly statistics, informatics, physics, marine science, electrical engineering, and mathematics education, through joint teaching and research activities.

Our Vision

The vision of PSMMAT USK is to become a leading center for education, research, and development in applied mathematics by 2035, integrating knowledge and technology in fields particularly related to mathematical applications.

Our Mission

  1. To provide high-quality mathematics education that supports research competence in applied mathematics.
  2. To conduct applied mathematics research addressing real-world problems by utilizing advances in computer technology.
  3. To establish collaborations with government institutions, industries, educational organizations, professional associations, and other stakeholders for the development and application of mathematics based on computer and information technology.
