The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala, proudly held Mathematics Fair XVII on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the FMIPA Auditorium. The event, which ran from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, featured a series of engaging activities, including competitions and seminars aimed at lecturers, university students, and high school students from various regions across Aceh.

Mathematics Fair XVII presented several competitions such as the Fast Counting Contest, Ranking One Quiz, and Mobile Legend Tournament, designed to foster students’ talents and interests in mathematics. In addition, a scholarship-themed seminar became one of the event’s highlights, presented by Ayu Atikah Syahputri (Djarum Scholarship Awardee) and Siti Maysarah (Bank Indonesia Scholarship Awardee). The session provided valuable insights into various funding opportunities for higher education.
This event aimed to improve the quality of human resources in Aceh Province through a mathematical education approach. It also supports the government’s efforts to develop an excellent and competitive young generation in the field of education. Another important goal was to introduce mathematics in a more engaging way, change public perceptions about the subject, and create an educational and competitive platform for students.
The Head of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA USK, Dr. Intan Syahrini, M.Si., stated:
“This activity is actually intended to broaden the knowledge and experience of students throughout Aceh, especially those at Universitas Syiah Kuala. Nowadays, many students seem less interested in mathematics, and we hope this event can reignite their enthusiasm.”
Through Mathematics Fair XVII, the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA USK, hopes to make a significant contribution to the development of mathematics and to enhance public appreciation of the role of mathematics in everyday life. With around 250 participants, this event is expected to discover new talents who can make even greater contributions in the future.
