In July 2024, Rini Oktavia, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), participated in two international conferences in Australia — the 15th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME) and the 10th Southeast Asia Design Research (SEA-DR) conference.

The International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME) is the world’s largest international conference in the field of mathematics education. The event was held in Sydney from July 7–14, 2024, and was attended by more than 2,500 educators and participants from 97 countries. During the conference, Dr. Rini Oktavia served as Coordinator of the Discussion Group on the theme “The Mathematics and Statistics Education Community’s Contributions to Assist Displaced People.”

In addition, Dr. Rini Oktavia also attended the 10th Southeast Asia Design Research (SEA-DR) conference held in Melbourne on July 15–16, 2024. The conference brought together 69 participants from 9 countries—Australia, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Vietnam. SEA-DR featured 4 keynote speakers, 1 guest lecturer, panel sessions for PhD students and professors, a co-design session with teachers, and 46 research paper presentations.

According to Dr. Rini Oktavia, these conferences provided valuable new insights into mathematics education and teaching practices. She hopes to apply the knowledge gained from these experiences to improve the quality of learning in the field of mathematics.
