
The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), has once again achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Ir. Tarmizi, M.Sc. as a Professor in the field of Computational Mathematics. The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the AAC Dayan Dawood Event Hall, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh.
This inauguration marks an important achievement not only for the Department of Mathematics but also for Universitas Syiah Kuala as a whole. The increasing number of professors reflects the university’s growing academic and research capacity in supporting the advancement of science, technology, and innovation.
The event began with a series of scientific orations delivered by six newly appointed professors from various academic disciplines at Universitas Syiah Kuala. The presentations covered diverse topics, including traditional wisdom in the development of future crops, nanomaterial technology, household economics and labor absorption, optimization of traditional shipyard supply chains, radiological studies on hemorrhagic stroke patients, and computational mathematics.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tarmizi, M.Sc. delivered a scientific oration entitled “The Strategic Role of Computational Mathematics in Unveiling the Dynamics of Nonlinear Systems and Complex Phenomena.” In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of computational mathematics as a discipline that plays a crucial role in understanding complex phenomena arising in nonlinear systems. Through mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and scientific computing, problems that are difficult to analyze analytically can be studied more comprehensively, leading to solutions that contribute to scientific advancement and societal needs.
