Overview of the Undergraduate (S1) Mathematics Study Program
The Mathematics Study Program is one of the oldest programs in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah). Established in 1989, it is the only undergraduate (S1) Mathematics program in Sumatra that has consistently achieved Accreditation A for three consecutive periods since 2006. This study program also served as the foundation for the establishment of several other programs in subsequent years, including the Undergraduate Informatics Program, Undergraduate Statistics Program, Diploma (D3) in Information Management, and the Master’s Program in Mathematics.
All courses in this program are designed to develop a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications across various fields of real life. The lecturers of this program hold Master’s and Doctoral degrees (S2 and S3) from universities in several countries, including the United States, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Graduates of this program are prepared to work in diverse fields that require strong analytical skills and logical thinking. The analytical abilities and logical reasoning cultivated during their studies enable graduates of the Undergraduate Mathematics Program to pursue careers in almost all sectors, including those not directly related to mathematics. As a result, alumni of this program have worked in various fields throughout Indonesia, such as finance, banking, taxation, industry, and education, both domestically and internationally. Based on available data, alumni have pursued careers as academics (lecturers or teachers) at universities and secondary schools in Indonesia and abroad, government officials (civil servants), employees of state-owned enterprises, banking and insurance professionals, industrial workers, members of the armed forces, and entrepreneurs.
