In preparation for the start of the even semester of the 2018/2019 academic year, on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, the Mathematics Department undertook several efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of academic activities. One of these efforts was monitoring the condition of students who had been identified as experiencing academic difficulties, such as students who had not completed online course registration (KRS), had not paid tuition fees, and other related issues. The mentoring team assigned by the Mathematics Department to address these matters consisted of Nurmaulidar, M.Sc., Dr. Salmawaty, Devi Firmansyah, S.Si., and Reza Aulia.

One of the approaches implemented by the team was visiting the homes of several students. This step was taken due to the lack of communication from the students with their academic advisors, despite repeated attempts by the advisors to contact them. The purpose of these visits was to directly understand the students’ conditions so that the most appropriate solutions could be identified and implemented. The issues faced by some students included engagement in activities outside campus life, such as freelance work, as well as addiction to online gaming.
Through these visits, the Mathematics Department team sought to re-educate students on the importance of fulfilling their responsibilities as university students and to provide insight into the realities of the job market, which is becoming increasingly competitive without adequate skills and academic preparation.
Nurmaulidar, M.Sc., Head of the Mathematics Department, stated that this mentoring program has been implemented for a long time and will continue to be carried out as part of the department’s commitment to guiding and educating its students. The program is intended to ensure that the department can effectively perform its role as a substitute parental figure on campus, while also encouraging students to promptly complete their academic obligations.
