The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), in collaboration with the Indonesian Mathematics Educators Society (I-MES) Aceh, successfully organized a Training Workshop on Optimal Control Applications in Public Policy on Saturday, November 30, 2024. The event was held at the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA USK, from 08:00 to 15:30 WIB and was attended by students, lecturers, and members of the public.

The workshop began with opening remarks from the Chairperson of I-MES Aceh, Prof. Dr. Rahmah Johar, S.Pd., M.Pd., followed by an official opening speech delivered by the Head of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Dra. Intan Syahrini, M.Si. The main sessions were presented by experienced speakers—Dr. Said Munzir, M.Eng.Sc., Mik Salmina, S.Pd., M.Mat., and Nanda Melyana, S.Mat.—who focused on the application of optimal control in various public policy contexts.

The activity aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of optimal control concepts, train them in constructing mathematical models for public policy, and equip them with technical skills in dynamic modeling and data analysis using fmincon and Eviews. Participants were expected to develop effective, data-driven solutions to support decision-making processes in public policy.

The workshop successfully provided participants with new insights into the application of optimal control to strategic public sector issues. Through practical methods such as dynamic modeling and parameter estimation, participants were better prepared to contribute to the development of science-based solutions. The event also facilitated interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations, marking an important step toward promoting data-driven policymaking in Indonesia.

This training reflects the strong commitment of the Department of Mathematics, FMIPA USK, and I-MES Aceh to enhancing human resource capacity in applied mathematics. In the future, similar activities are expected to continue, further expanding their positive impact on society.
